Pivot Bridge, ridden by outstanding jockey, Robert Winston, makes appeal in the twelve-runner 'aged' handicap over ten furlongs at Bath today. Probability is that Robert and William Carson will play a twin-role for Charlie Haills' Farringdon stables, taking over from Michael and Richard Hills, famous 49-year-old twins of Barry Hills, who retired recently. Charlie is making a fist of training, obviously wants to run before he can walk, in a sense but experience will soon calm him down and his first month earns a 'satisfactory' rating in my book.
Pivot Bridge could well gain reward for consistency but is no 'good thing' and each-way is advised. If a thoroughbred hasn't won by now, in its 'second season,' there's a problem and he's no world-beater.
Neither is twice-raced Winner's Wish, one of fourteen declarations for the Maiden Stakes over the same course and distance, a colossal distance for a two-year-old! Winner's Wish stayed on well over a mile of Kempton polytrack, under Frankie Dettori, a fortnight ago. That surface is tough, 'riding slow' according to most jockeys and so, this extra two furlongs is worth chancing. Jeremy Noseda's charge also has a 5lbs fillies allowance which, in my book, relates to FIVE LENGTHS! Shrewd placing, therefore and Paoletta has also been found the perfect slot in a Maiden Fillies' Stakes over, you've guessed, ten furlongs.
It's the fifth race over this trip today, what's going on? If there is a danger to Paoletta, we' haven't been able to unearth it and so, despite an absence of 120 days, this superbly-bred, twice-raced filly is reckoned a 'professional special.' Not an easy day, moderate fare, in fact but they will pay the same currency for winners, as they do at Royal Ascot and Longchamp where, incidentally, the 'Arc de Triomphe will be staged next Sunday. 'Think' we might have the winner! Ffos Las also stages a seven-race card which includes the Maiden Stakes over five furlongs and a good chance for consistent, hitherto luckless Night Angel to finally go one better. Each-way is a safe bet!
