Police stayed in the hunt for two titles in the Santa Cruz Football Organisation's Monteco Cup after a 2-1 knockout quarterfinal win over Fire Service at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Sam Boucaud, Upper Santa Cruz on Tuesday. Christopher Samuel and Kevin Titre were both on target for the Lawmen, who are also through to the League Cup final against Back Street while Marcus Chandool got the lone reply for Fire Service. In another quarterfinal, contested on Thursday, San Juan/San Juan and River Plate battled to a 2-2 draw to force a replay today at 2.30 pm. Marvin Joseph and Richard De Couteau scored for San Juan/San Juan while Kerry Victor and Garth Jacob got River Plate items.
Back Street also kept in the hunt to be crowned double-champions after an 8-0 mauling of a depleted North Coast United in their round-of-16 replay after their first meeting drew 2-2 before bad light stopped penalty kicks from taking place. Jerwyn "Bally' Balthaz fired in a hat-trick to lead the onslaught for the home-town favourites Back Street while captain Sterling O'Brien and Jamal Maughn chipped in with two each, and Dexter Thornhill, the other. Back Street will return to action tomorrow to face Northern Area Sports Club (NASC) in its quarterfinal. Today, Dathea and Pipiol face off in the other quarterfinal from 4.30 pm. At stake in the League Cup final is the $10,000 winner chequewhile second gets $5,000, third $2,500 and fourth, $1,500.
