Dha­ka-West In­dies head coach Ot­tis Gib­son be­lieves his young brigade have the abil­i­ty to de­liv­er in a big way in the up­com­ing se­ries against Bangladesh. The West In­dies se­lec­tors have in­clud­ed a num­ber of ex­cit­ing young play­ers in the squads for the lim­it­ed-overs and Test match­es and on Tues­day Gib­son gave the young­sters his full sup­port. Gib­son out­lined: "Some of the young­sters have tak­en the op­por­tu­ni­ty and done very well for us. We build around those young guys and some of the se­nior guys. We be­lieve we are build­ing a team and we are see­ing signs of im­prove­ment. I know they are all ca­pa­ble and ready to take this op­por­tu­ni­ty."

The lim­it­ed-overs squad in­cludes four play­ers on their first over­seas tour- open­ers Dan­za Hy­att and Kier­an Pow­ell, all­rounder Car­los Brath­waite, and leg-spin­ner An­tho­ny Mar­tin. Fast bowl­ing all­rounder An­dre Rus­sell and leg-spin­ner De­ven­dra Bishoo have both done very well in their first year at the in­ter­na­tion­al lev­el. Bishoo, the ICC Emerg­ing Play­er of the Year for 2011, and Pow­ell are al­so in the Test squad along with teenaged open­er Kraigg Brath­waite and Kirk Ed­wards, who made a cen­tu­ry on Test de­but against In­dia at Wind­sor Park in Do­mini­ca in Ju­ly. Gib­son spoke as the Windies held an af­ter­noon train­ing ses­sion at the Sher-e-Bangla Na­tion­al Crick­et Sta­di­um in Mir­pur. They will be back at the Bangladesh Crick­et Board Acad­e­my to­day for nets and a field­ing ses­sion.

Look­ing ahead to the se­ries, Gib­son not­ed that every­one is well aware Bangladesh can pose a strong chal­lenge in their home con­di­tions. "We un­der­stand that in the Bangladeshi line-up they have sev­er­al left-arm spin­ners, so that ob­vi­ous­ly means they will be count­ing heav­i­ly on their slow bowlers. We were in Dubai last week prepar­ing and we had the op­por­tu­ni­ty to play against some good spin­ners there," Gib­son said. The tour bowls off to­mor­row with a 50-over warm-up match against the BCB XI at Sha­heb Os­man Ali Sta­di­um at Narayan­ganj.
