The West In­dies se­lec­tors have again left out the four most high pro­file play­ers in West In­dies crick­et from their cen­tral con­tracts for the pe­ri­od Oc­to­ber 1, 2011, to Sep­tem­ber 30, 2012. The quar­tet are for­mer cap­tains Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sar­wan, along with Dwayne Bra­vo and Ke­iron Pol­lard. A sim­i­lar fate has been hand­ed to T&T wick­et­keep­er De­nesh Ramdin and open­er Lendl Sim­mons. In 2010, a WICB press re­lease stat­ed that Gayle and Bra­vo, who were both of­fered A con­tracts, and Kieron Pol­lard, who was of­fered a C con­tract, in­di­cat­ed to the WICB that "they were not mind­ed to take up the of­fers." It is be­lieved the ar­bi­tra­tion mat­ters in­volv­ing Gayle and Sim­mons and the West In­dies Crick­et Board (WICB) have played a ma­jor part in both play­ers be­ing ig­nored by se­lec­tors Clyde Butts, Robert Haynes and Court­ney Browne.

Oth­er play­ers to fall off the 18-man con­tract list are spin bowlers Sulie­man Benn and Niki­ta Miller. Vet­er­an left-han­der Shiv­nar­ine Chan­der­paul has been re­tained while Mar­lon Samuels has been giv­en a con­tract for the first time since his re­turn to com­pet­i­tive crick­et af­ter a two-year ban. Four T&T play­ers are on the re­tain­er list. They are bats­men Dar­ren Bra­vo and Adri­an Bharath and fast bowlers Ravi Ram­paul and Shan­non Gabriel.
