Trinidad and Tobago's Matthew Hagley will be aiming for his second win in the NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association) 10K road race series when the third leg gets underway at the Queen's Park Savannah at 7 am today.The race starts at White Hall on the west of the Queen's Park Savannah and ends at Queen's Royal College.The route will take runners one lap around the Savannah unto Maraval Road, over Long Circular Road, east along Western Main Road then unto Tragarete Road turning left at the Cipriani Boulevard and finishing in front of QRC.
Registration will end on race day between 5.30 am and 6.30 am.Hagley was victorious on the second stop in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands on October 8.The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force runner completed the race in 34 minutes 21 seconds.Compatriot Celine Lestrade was third in the ladies race (40:15) and will be aiming to go one step better one.The race is being hosted by the National Association of Athletic Administration (NAAA) and according to its Web site, "Athletes are expected from around the Caribbean-USVI, Grenada, Guyana, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Martinique, St Lucia, Tortola and the hosts T&T" and will vie for US$3,500 (TT$22,400) in prizes.
The top five finishers in the male and female divisions will receive cash prizes with the top finisher collecting US$500 (TT$3,200).The other places will take home US$400 (TT$2,500), US$325 (TT$2,080), US$275 (TT$1,760), US$250 (TT$ 1,600). The top 100 finishers will be given medals.Registration fee is TT$30 (Local)/US$15 (Foreign). The race is open to athletes 18 years and over.The first leg of the NACAC Road Race series took place in St Croix, US Virgin Islands on September 25 while the second leg was held on October 8 in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.The fourth leg is set of Martinique (November 13), with the fifth in Dominica (November 27). The series ends in Grenada on December 11.
