T&T sprinter Emmanuel Callender was expected to line up in a the Men's 100m semifinal at the 16th Pan American Games in Guadalajar, Mexico last night at the Telmex Athletics Stadium.Callender won the second of five first round heats in the fastest time of all the qualifiers, 10.13 seconds. USA's Albert Newman was second in 10.30 to secure the other automatic semifinal spot from the heat.He was scheduled to compete in the second semifinal with St Kitts/Nevis Kim Collins, Ramon Gittens (Barbados), Andre Bailey (Jamaica), David Lescay (Cuba), Nilson Andre (Brazil), Jamaal St John-Rolle (Bahamas) and Bermuda's Harould Houston.However, local sprinter, Darrel Brown had a disappointing outing as he crossed the line in 10.63 seconds for fifth spot in heat three which was won by Cuban, Michael Herrera in 10.31.Collins won heat four in 10.37 seconds while Jamaica, Lerone Gomez, who is in semifinal heat one was best in the final heat in 10.15 seconds. Also last night, Quincy Wilson took part in the 14-man field, Discus Throw final.

T&T's men's hockey team missed out on a semifinal spot after going under to Chile 3-1 in their final Pool match yesterday at the Pan American Hockey Stadium.Going into the encounter, both T&T and Chile had three points, however, the "Calypso Stickmen" had a better goal difference and only needed a draw to advance alongside group winner, Argentina which ended with maximum nine points after blasting Barbados.The South Americans went ahead via a penalty-corner from Jan Richter in the 15th minute which it took into the interval.A minute into the second-half, Petrotrin's Atiba Whittington drew T&T level and on course for a spot in the medal round, however, the South Americans regained the lead in the 51st minute through Sven Richter before Martin Rodriguez killed off T&T's hopes with a 65th minute field goal.At the Nissan Gymnastic Complex, 15-year-old Thema Williams had a total score of 45.600 points but failed to secure a spot in any of her apparatus finals.In the floor exercise routine, Williams got a score of 11.050 (40th), uneven bars-11.350 (28th), beam -10.825 (38th) and on the horse she tallied 12.375 for 38th position.

Today, the T&T Under-22 footballers have a fair chance of advancing to the semifinals when they go all out for a victory in their final group stage fixture against Uruguay at the Omnilife Stadium, Guadalajara from 10 am (11 am T&T time).After T&T's 1-1 draw with Ecuador on Sunday, Uruguay were then battered 5-2 by Mexico which left them atop the table with seven points and through to the next stage.The South Americans meantime are on three points and T&T on two.A win will send T&T through to the "semis."
