Presentation College San Fernando and Vessigny Secondary will kick-off the 2011 edition of the Coca-Cola Intercol Tournament.The defending national Intercol champion Signal Hill will be on a bye, along with Tobago league champion Scarborough, for the first round.This was confirmed at the presentation of the sponsor's new logo for the upcoming tournament, at a press conference held at Courtyard By Marriott, Invaders Bay, yesterday.The event was attended by-president of the Secondary Schools Football League Ewing Davis, and representatives of Coca-Cola-Reberto la Peira, Vielka Guzman and Marlon Newallo.
Newallo, Coca Coca T&T's marketing manager, spoke at the press conference, reaffirming the brand's commitment to the promotion of football in the country.He said Coca-Cola was committed to promoting active lifestyles among young people."Our brand continues to invest in the youths of our country, youths that believe in sports as the right way to achieve success in life," Newallo said.Davis, then took the opportunity to thank Coca-Cola for its support of the league over the years.As confirmed at the conference, the Coca-Cola Intercol will commence with a South Zone quarterfinal double-header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella on Monday. The first match between Presentation and Vessigny will kick off at 3 pm, followed by Naparima versus St Benedicts.
Quarterfinal matches will continue everyday from next Monday until Friday, in the respective zones.The Zonal semifinals will be played between November 14 and 21. The National Quarterfinals will commence on November 22, with the winner of the Tobago Zone taking on the champion of the South Zone at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.The winner will advance to the semifinal to take on the winner of the North Zone on November 25.On November 24, the top team in the East will challenge the Central winners.The national final will take place on November 29 at a venue to be announced.Coca Cola's funding includes sponsorship of the functional cost of the Intercol tournament.Coca-Cola has been affiliated with the sport on an international level since 1917 and has sponsored the Intercol since 2009.
