Former T&T Davis Cup player Dexter Mahase emerged the top player of the Promenade Classified Tennis Championships which concluded over the weekend. Mahase walked away with the men's singles and doubles "A" titles on the weekend.
The top seed beat his father, Harry, 6-1, 6-3 in the singles final.Mahase claimed yet another victory over his father, this time with the help of partner Gaekwad Ramoutar in the doubles. The Mahase/Ramoutar pair got the upper hand on defending champions, Harry and Ian Henry, in two straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
This lost came as a surprise to the Harry/Ian duo who looked as if they were in good line to retain their title, after clobbering Raval Deonarine and Joel David 6-1, 6-3 earlier last week in the semi-finals.
Also ably defending her title as the women's "A" singles champion was Kelta Satahoo who got the better of her archrival Joy Arjoonsingh 4-1, 4-2, in a repeat of last year's final.
