T&T's American-based Lisa "Bad News" Brown would be arriving tonight for her WIBA world title fight against Paola Esther Herrera of Colombia at the Queen's Park Oval next week Saturday. Arrangements are being made for Brown to visit many of the schools and institutions in the Morvant/Laventille area where she grew up and is expected to make courtesy calls on President George Maxwell Richards and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Invitations are extended to Members of parliament to be at ringside when she battles with the Colombian next weekend. Brown will round off her training at the Hasely Crawford Stadium during the coming week. A successful outcome in this fight will see her taking on Chanttall Martinez of Panama for the WBA Super Bantamweight title early in the new year at the Queen's Park Oval.
Martinez won a controversial decision over Brown in Panama in her last fight, after Brown floored Martinez in the eight round of that WBA world title fight. Brown is expected to win this one comfortably before going after Martinez. Having rallied on her own worldwide for many years Brown is eager to show her great boxing skills and ability to all of Trinidad and Tobago, and is hoping for a huge crowd ringside to support her. She will be signing autographs on a date and a venue to be announced.
Also, on the cards will be Guyana's talented and powerful puncher Sean Corbin against Elias Ruiz of Colombia. Other supporting bouts will include local heavyweight and national champion Kerston Manswell and Kirt Sinnette, while Brian George will make his debut in bout against a winless Eion Blue.
Boxing promoter and manager Tansley Thompson has described Brown as, "undoubtedly one of the most celebrated boxers out of the Caribbean. Thompson, who is one of the sport veteran promoters and manager of Surefire Promotions, also commended the efforts of the T&T boxing board for its assistance in the upcoming bout.
