Ashim Pierre-Roach scored with less than two minutes left on the clock, as Universal Flippers edged Scorpion 2-1 to secure a spot in the MAD Sports Promotions Carenage Super League First Citizens Sports Foundation 'Big-Four' competition. Going into Thursday night's encounter at a jam-packed Carenage Recreation Ground, Haig Street, Carenage, both clubs were in must-win situation while a drawn result would have also kept Flippers in the hunt. But within the first ten minutes, S Long fired the St James-based Flippers ahead, which it held until Scorpion's Dwayne Mark scored from a corner past goalkeeper Roger Campbell midway through the second-half.
Both teams then created a few openings without much luck with Flippers substitute goalkeeper Keene Mc Millan keeping his team alive with a few reflex saves, including two at the feet of Mark in the dying stages. Mc Millan's heroic's set the stage for Pierre-Roach to grab a late winner when he latched unto a through ball down the left and beat the advancing goalkeeper. With the win, Flippers ended its six-match schedule in Group with 12 points, three behind 13 Posse while Scorpion remained fifth with nine points. 13 Posse wrapped up top spot in the group after a tense 2-1 win over third placed finisher Sheffield Bombers in the night's second match. N Mitchell and A Guerra scored for 13 Posse before K. Theodore pulled one back for Bombers, which needed a win to qualify.
