Forward Chris Nelson shot two massive three-point shots in the final 45 seconds of the match, helping his team-Ministry of Sport (MOS) Schoolaz secure back-to-back wins in the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League (SBL), this time a 76-72 triumph against Caledonia Clippers in over-time, at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo on Friday night.Following an opening night loss to defending champions Detour Shak Attack, Schoolaz rebounded to whip Diego Martin All Stars 105-78 over on Monday, and then to drop the Clippers to a loss two days after a dominant performance over Maloney Pacers which saw them win 77-49.
The match was tied 66-66 before a determined Schoolaz team went all out in the over-time period.It was an outstanding all-rounded team performance from Schoolaz which saw Ernesto Romain grab a league and career high 19 rebounds.He sank 11 points into the net, and helped with two assists and two steals.Centre Ashton Demurrell also put on a good show, taking 12 points and taking eight rebounds and four steals, while Chris Nelson got a team-high 15 points, with four assists and three rebounds.
The win came with a heavy cost for Schoolaz, as the teams skipper Kemrick Julien had to be helped off the court, following an ankle injury in his right foot, in the fourth quarter.Clippers put on a brave performance, however, and took a bright 18-15 lead in the first period, before trailing 35-31, and 52-47 at half-time and the third quarter.Successful free-throws from Shawn Lawrence in the final seconds of the last quarter, saw Clippers get back on level terms at the sound of the final buzzer.
Along with Nelson, Dillon Howell shot accurate baskets in the over-time period to separate the two teams, and put MOS back into contention as legitimate contenders for this season's league title.
