The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) yesterday confirmed a Sunday Guardian report that the preliminary round of the regional T20 tournament will be shifted from the Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad to Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds, Antigua. The move resulted because of high rental fees for the Oval and the unavailability of the venue on January 14, one of the playing days.
The Oval management was reported to be asking for US$100,000 for the six days of cricket but the St John's venue is much cheaper since it is controlled by the Antigua and Barbuda government. As a result, changes have been made to the fixtures with matches on January 9, 11 and 19 switched. Three overseas teams-Netherlands, Canada and Sussex-will compete against seven Caribbean teams with the highest placed Caribbean team going on to represent the region in the Nokia Champions League.
All matches will be broadcast live on ESPN.
