Eight-time National Scrabble Champion and captain of the Happy Hour Scrabble Club, Rodney Romany, beamed with pride as his club dominated the winner’s circle at this year’s national presentation ceremony.  Happy Hour captured both the prestigious League and Knock-Out trophies, clinching the double for the eighth time.

Romany’s triumph in the national championships earned him the right to represent T&T at the World Scrabble Championship, held in October at the Hilton Hotel, Poland.  Romany provided the country with its best ever performance at these championships, placing 59th from a field of 106 participants.

Fellow team-mates Brian Yates and Compton Welch, continued their club’s winning streak as Yates emerged as the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and also secured the prize for scoring the most bonus words, (126), setting a new national record.

Welch took the prize for the highest single play and teamed up with Adolphus Alexander to win the pairs tournament.  Alexander also took the prize for the highest game score, (718 points). These three team members received steady support from scrabble queen, Carol Ross, Ronald Ferreira, Curvis Francois and their inspirational leader, Romany.
