National forward Stephen "Lighter" Lewis inspired Defence Force to a second consecutive win in the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League (SBL), this time over Diego Martin All Stars in the men's division, at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo, on Sunday night.He led the scorers for either team with 23 points, while taking five rebounds and two steals.Team-mate and point-guard Derrick Boxill contributed with 13 points, seven points and four steals, while centre Kevin Bacguain chipped in with ten points and four rebounds.The four-time champions were commanding throughout the entire encounter, taking leads at 16–9 and 36–17 at the end of the first quarter and at half time, respectively.Diego Martin succumbed to their second loss of the campaign, maintaining a 50 per cent record. The club was led by point-guard and Shorn Edwards and forward Gershwin Duncan, both of whom netted 12 points. Duncan also grabbed three rebounds in his efforts.
Police records historic win over Defence Force
Rhonda John-Davis was instrumental in her debut for Police in the team's 81–73 win over Defence Force in the battle of the protective services in the women's division on Sunday evening.John-Davis, a former Defence Force forward traded the #22 blue and green outfit for the #13 white and blue Police kit just over a year ago, and she delivered in her first big competitive match.The recipient of national and zonal championship medals during her tenure at Defence Force, was one of the best players on the court dropping 29 points, helping Police to their first ever win in the SBL women's basketball division over the same opponents.Defence Force led the first quarter 19–18, but Police managed to overturn the result to lead 42–39 at the half and never looked back.The winning team got support from the talented forward Kielle Connelly, while former national forward Tressia Brathwaite poured 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
