BRIDGETOWN-Ronald Jones has emerged as an­oth­er can­di­date for the va­cant po­si­tion of pres­i­dent of the Caribbean Foot­ball Union.A lo­cal news­pa­per re­port­ed on yes­ter­day that Jones, the pres­i­dent of the Bar­ba­dos Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion and the Bar­ba­dos Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion, is soon ex­pect­ed to an­nounce his can­di­da­cy for the va­cant CFU po­si­tion.The news­pa­per said David Hinds, gen­er­al sec­re­tary of the BFA, will al­so chal­lenge for the same po­si­tion at the CFU af­ter in­cum­bent An­ge­nie Kan­hai of Trinidad and To­ba­go re­signed ear­li­er this month.

The po­si­tions on the CFU ex­ec­u­tive have be­come va­cant, fol­low­ing the cash-for-votes scan­dal in which sev­er­al key fig­ures were im­pli­cat­ed.In­ves­ti­ga­tions by FI­FA, the sport's World gov­ern­ing body, re­vealed that CFU mem­bers were giv­en US$40,000 bribes dur­ing a meet­ing last May in T&T to en­cour­age them to vote for then FI­FA pres­i­den­tial can­di­date Mo­hamed bin Ham­mam.For­mer FI­FA vice pres­i­dent, CON­CA­CAF and CFU pres­i­dent Austin "Jack" Warn­er re­signed fol­low­ing the rev­e­la­tions.Bin Ham­mam was forced to with­draw his can­di­da­cy and was banned for life from in­volve­ment with the sport.
