Forward Kern George again led the scoring with 26 points for the University of T&T (UTT) in the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball Legaue (SBL) helping his team to a 69-59 win over Police at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo, on Tuesday night.Despite scoring an outstanding 17 points of his total in the first quarter, Police held a 21-19, at the end of the opening period.
However, UTT got right back into the match in the second period, outscoring Police 25-15 to take a 44-36 lead.The Policemen clad in Blue and White were unable to recover, and eventually lost out on the wide tenpoint margin. UTT's second win in four matches, dropped Police to its second loss in as many matches since its opening day 100-35 defeat to Sando Petro Jazz on Saturday.
Supporting George were forwards Jeffrey Harris and Kevon Noreiga who shot 17 and 13 points, respectively.Randy Greenidge was Police's most dangerous player. He scored 17 points, while Phillip Alexander added 10. \
Diego Martin gets first win women's didvision
Diego Martin All Stars recorded their first win in the women's division on Tuesday, taming Chaguanas Lions 57-39 in the first match on the night.Following losses to a crafty BLINK Brian Chase Academy and defending champions Courts Horizon, Diego Martin bounced back to easily hold off their opponents.Diego narrowly led 13-10 in the first period but outplayed the Lions to almost double the leading margin at 30-16.
The Central club outscored the winners in the third period but still trailed by eight points at 39-31. Diego Martin, however, saved the best for last. Led by forward Anika Nottingham, who top scored for her team in the third successive match, Diego Martin took 18 points to Lions' eight, to win by a comfortable 18 point margin.
Nottingham, a promising young player, scored 17 points, followed by Samantha Wallace who got her first double-double, scoring 11 points and taking 12 rebounds. Shanella Pierre was the only real threat for the Lions. She scored 11 points and took seven rebounds. Diego Martin will be back in action tonight, but in the Girls 18-and Under outfit.
They will take on Yorke Basketball Club at 6.30 pm, followed by a keen men's match-up between Defence Force and Caledonia Clippers.
