The Jeffery Ross Racing Special

Mister Mackenzie gets his ‘Best’ chance to date in the eight-runner Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs of Kempton polytrack, which has undergone a transformation! Whereas, a few weeks ago this surface was tired and reckoned demanding by experienced all-weather jockeys, it’s now much better, having been ‘topped up’ or whatever. There’s a real spring in it and hopefully, Mister Mackenzie, ridden by champion AWR jockey, Luke Morris, will bounce home at the fifth attempt. He’s been ‘in the frame’ every time. Consistency usually gains reward and trained by the opportunist John Best, this  easy-moving Kodiac colt rates a ‘professional special’ each-way bet with three places on offer. Usual conditions/warning apply. Make sure they all run before placing a bet of this type because a withdrawal means two places. We’ll continue to point this out.

Sand Skier remains on a winning mark even though beaten more than t20 lengths at Wolverhampton last month, over two miles. That was obviously much too far and Sand Skier must be considered for the ‘aged’ handicap over 12 furlongs, especially with promising apprentice Nicole Nordblad claiming full 7lbs allowance. No ‘cert’ by any means but Sand Skier can be relied upon to run his race and has been given a four weeks ‘spell’ since that last outings; another cracking each-way prospect. Incidentally each-way punting is reckoned a negative by serious-minded backers but this isn’t the case when played into doubles/trebles, and even accumulators; bookies hate them when placed by shrewdies!

Good, recent form counts for so much and Pharoah Jake goes into the ten-runner ‘aged’ handicap over six furlongs on the back of a ‘career-best’ 15 days ago, off bottom weight and also benefiting from the 3lbs apprentice claim of Kieran O’Neill who lost that allowance earlier this week! Let me explain. When apprentices ride out their claim they are allowed to keep the allowance for rides which have been booked over the following four days. It’s a sensible rule and trainer John Bridger is taking advantage of it with Pharoah Haze. We’re gearing up for a fabulous quality weekend of jumping with Big Bucks attempting to make it 15 in a row, thus preserving his remarkable unbeaten record over hurdles; will ‘time’ be cruel, this time?
