Sussex coach defends trip to the Caribbean

HOVE— Sussex Sharks coach Mark Robinson brushed aside criticism that his side’s trip to the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament was a waste of time. Robinson said the CT20 provided a reality check for the county side’s younger players and felt it was an education for them. “We got found out a little bit,” Robinson told BBC Sussex. “But sometimes you need to be exposed and it’s about what the players take away (from it).
“We got found out by spin on difficult pitches in Antigua and came across high, international pace in Barbados.”
The Sharks won one of their four games and finished fourth in Group-B, suffering defeats to Jamaica, Combined Campuses & Colleges, and Barbados. “For us as a club (and) as a development (opportunity), it has been fantastic,” he said. “The learning experience is invaluable. Time will tell if they are the right players.” (CMC)
