Club Sando’s Andy London netted a second-half beaver-trick as Club Sando clobbered Damarie Hill Re-United 6-0 in their T&T Football Federation FA Trophy Round One match at Industry Park, Palo Seco, on Tuesday night. Leading 1-0 at the interval via a fourth-minute strike from Trevon Mitchell, the bmobile National Super League club stepped up the pressure in the second-half led by London to add five more goals. London opened his account in the 56th minute and added items in the 62nd, 70th and 86th before Kerron Brooks completed the scoring on the stroke of full-time against the Eastern Counties Football Union outfit, Re-United. With the win, Club Sando set up a round-of-32 encounter against fellow Super League club, 1976 Phoenix at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, on February 4 from 6 pm.

In Tuesday’s other round one match, WASA, another Super League club, avoided an upset when it came from behind to defeat host Maloney FC 3-1 led by a brace from Glen Walker. The “Water Boys,” former finalists in 2005 were stunned by the host in the 20th minute when Israel Honore netted for the Eastern Football Association club. However, ten minutes later, the speedy Walker drew his team level for a 1-1 score at the half. Walker fired WASA ahead for the first time in the match in the 61st minute with his second on the night and ten minutes from full-time, former national youth team player Shane “German” Calder sealed the victory and a last-32 meeting with Northern Football Association’s Queen’s Park CC at the Oval also on February 4, from 3.30 pm. The two other first round matches take place on Saturday where Southern Football Association representative Uprising Youths welcomes Digicel T&T Pro League heavyweights, Neal & Massy Caledonia, at Techier Village, Pt Fortin, from 3.30 pm while reigning Pro League champion, Defence Force, faces St Anthony’s College, winners of the Secondary Schools Football League National League and Inter-Col titles as well as the North Zone League and Inter-Col at a venue to be decided.

This is because St Anthony’s, which was due to host the match on Saturday, will be staging its Carnival fete at the same Westmoorings venue a day later. St Anthony’s is one of four SSFL teams in the competition and will be joined by fellow national Big-Five semifinalists El Dorado East Secondary (East Zone winner), Scarborough Secondary (Tobago Zone winner) and  Carapichaima East Secondary (Central Zone winner). It will be the first time SSFL teams will be competing in the 36-team tournament since the early 1970s. Reigning FA Trophy holder and three-time winner, Adam’s Construction Limited San Juan Jabloteh kicks off its defence against El Dorado East Secondary, nick-named the “Blue Thunder” on February 5, in one of eight matches scheduled for that day. Last year, Jabloteh registered its third lien on the trophy via 1-0 win over fellow Digicel T&T Pro League club, DirecTV North East Stars with Kennedy Hinkson, the scorer to land the $80,000 winner’s prize. The teams competing in this year’s tournament comprises, eight from the Digicel T&T Pro League, six from the bmobile National Super League, three each from the Eastern Football Association, Southern Football Association, Eastern Counties Football Union, Northern Football Association, Central Football Association and Tobago Football Association.
