West Indies batsmen Adrian Barath and Lendl Simmons each made scores in the 90s to guide their respective teams, FC Clarke Road and Ceramic Merryboys, to victories in the second round of the T&T Cricket Board's Sunday League Premiership 50 over competition yesterday. Barath struck an unbeaten 98 off 97 balls in Penal as Clarke Road reached 154 for two in 30 overs in reply to W Connection Wanderers' 150 all out. His innings included seven fours and one six. Wanderers' had earlier been set back by the quartet of Terry Edwards (2-15), Mukesh Persad (2-19), Sanjiv Gooljar (2-21) and Troy Gonzalves (2-27).
Meanwhile at St Mary's Ground, St Clair, Simmons hit 90 off 102 balls in Merryboys' 63-run win over Moosai Sports.
Batting first, Merryboys were bowled out for 192 in 49.5 overs with Alcindo Holder chipping in with 34 and Aneil Kanhai (2-22) and Keegan Roy (2-6) taking two wickets apiece. Despite a fighting 47 off 71 balls from William Perkins, Moosai stumbled in their reply and were eventually dismissed for 129 in the 46th over. Emile Rajah was the pick of the Merryboys bowlers, taking three for 24, while Simmons (2-8) and Holder (2-25) were also among the wickets.
Defending champions Queen's Park Cricket Club pulled off their second win of the weekend when they crushed hosts Esmeralda Sports Club by six wickets. The one-sided victory was put together by bowlers Akiel Hosien (4-25), Shannon Gabriel (3-21) and Daron Cruickshank (3-23), who reduced Esmeralda to 90 all out in 32 overs batting first. The visitors cruised to the target in 16.3 overs with allrounder Kieron Pollard (27 n.o.) finishing the game with a six.
