West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul jumped four places to ninth in the latest ICC Test Batting Rankings following the substandard performances of other batsmen in recent Tests. Remaining on 766 points, the left hander bumped ahead of Australian Mike Hussey (12th to 16th), Pakistani Younis Khan (7th to 10th), Sachin Tendulkar (6th to 13th) and Ian Bell (4th to 12th), who each lost ground over the past two weeks.

The next highest rated West Indians are Darren Bravo (683 pts), who dropped one place to 20th, Kirk Edwards (43rd) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (44th). Chris Gayle, who has not played a Test since December 2010, has disappeared from the list. Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara occupies the top spot with 850 points, followed by South African Jacques Kallis (846 pts), Australian captain Michael Clarke (821 pts), South African AB De Villiers (815 pts) and England’s Alistair Cook (795 pts).

Among the regional bowlers, Fidel Edwards (24th), Darren Sammy (25th), Kemar Roach (36th), Devendra Bishoo (37th) and Ravi Rampaul (42nd) each dropped one place. South African pacer Dale Steyn (896 pts) continued his reign as the world number one while Pakistani offspinner Saeed Ajmal (812) jumped 10 spots to second after taking 17 wickets in his team’s first two Tests against England. The rest of the top five is filled out by England’s James Anderson (787), Australia’s Peter Siddle (768), who took 23 wickets in four Tests against India recently, and Anderson’s teammate Stuart Broad (760).
