Shree Raam Dhaam tem­ple of Diego Mar­tin re­tained the Shankaracharya Chal­lenge tro­phy when they were crowned over­all cham­pi­ons at the An­nu­al SWA­HA In­ter­na­tion­al Hin­du or­gan­i­sa­tion Sports and Fam­i­ly Day held at the Ato Boldon Sta­di­um on Sun­day. But it was not an easy vic­to­ry for the Diego Mar­tin based group as they nar­row­ly edged out Sukh Shan­ti Bhak­ti Man­dali of Free­man Road St Au­gus­tine by a mere three points for the cov­et­ed ti­tle. SWA­HA Hin­du Col­lege filled third spot just one point be­hind. The over­all cham­pi­ons al­so re­tained the tug of war male ti­tle, one of the fea­ture events in the day's pro­gramme, when they made light work of Tul­si Man­as tem­ple of San­gre Grande. How­ev­er the San­gre Grande con­tin­gent re­deemed them­selves in the fe­male cat­e­go­ry when they pulled their way to an easy vic­to­ry over Gyaan Deep­ak Kir­tan Man­dali of Aran­juez.

The day's pro­gramme got un­der way with a very colour­ful and keen­ly-con­test­ed march past pa­rade in which eleven teams took part with mu­si­cal ac­com­pa­ni­ment from the mem­bers of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Cadet Corp. In the end it was de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Tul­si Man­as who took home the ti­tle. The San­gre Grande unit gave a won­der­ful dis­play decked in their gold and white uni­forms which saw them beat Sukh Shan­ti in­to sec­ond place. The march past salute was tak­en by Min­is­ter in the Min­istry of Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment and Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for Cou­va South Rudy In­dars­ingh along with the Spir­i­tu­al Head of SWA­HA Pra­mar­charya Pun­dit Hard­eo Per­sad. Min­is­ter In­dars­ingh com­mend­ed the or­gan­i­sa­tion for the ef­forts they were mak­ing to as­sist in the all round de­vel­op­ment of the young peo­ple through the medi­um of sport­ing ac­tiv­i­ties.
