Recently relegated National Super League team St Francois Nationals, which had a dismal 2011 season, recorded the upset of the round following a 1-0 win over TT Pro League's T&TEC in the TTFF FA Trophy round of 16 match at the QPCC Ground, Queen's Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, yesterday. Lorne Joseph was the hero of the day, as his lone item in the 13th minute lasted until the end and proved to be the decider in a thrilling encounter. Despite being pressured, especially in the second half, St Francois kept the "Electricity Boys" at bay, with brilliant saves coming from goalkeeper Denzil Carabon between the sticks. St Francois, surprisingly has the better first half, and had to hold their defensive lines well in the second to support its lead.
T&TEC fielded a full-strength squad with Akini Adams, Kerry Baptiste, Andre Pacheco and Andre Toussaint all in the line-up, but the unispired team was unable to put anything past a brilliant Carabon. Joe Public, winners of the National Super League cup and league competitions for 2011 was set to take on Tobago Football Association champions St Clair Coaching School, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, but the match failed to kick off, for reasons unspecified. In another early match, OJ Soldado School had no problems brushing aside East SSFL champions Carapichaima East Secondary 4-0 at the School's home turf.
