Mike’s Sugar much better than candy today

Stephen Jardim should land his third winner of the 2012 season today, when he saddles Mike’s Sugar in the feature event for horses rated 70-50, over 1,300 metres on the main track at Santa Rosa Park. Mike’s Sugar has campaigned with higher class during his career and this represents a drop in class for my selection. Mike’s Sugar ran creditably last tine out, behind stablemate, Secret American and top creole, Galveston and will be sharper for the run. This shorter trip will be just what the doctor ordered and with main rival, Candy Man carry joint top-weight. I expect the Bertwin Samlalsingh owned horse to prevail.

The speedy Candy Man, from the in-form Derick Mosca barn, will again go close. He has been very consistent in his career and another big run is expected for champion owner, Shivam Maharaj. Candy Man will have to do just that bit more going up in class to beat Mike’s Sugar. Post time for the first event is 1.30 pm.
