Moosai cricket club got their first win of 2012 local cricket season, after a miraculous last wicket stand between former national players Navin Chan and Kenneth Hazel took them home against Bamboo in the third round of the Sunday league cricket series at Honeymoon Park yesterday. Playing hosts to Seenath's Auto Bamboo, Moosai got a last wicket stand of 68 runs from Chan and Hazel to get past Bamboo's innings of 208 all out from their 50 overs. Hazel finished on 31 not out and Chan on 31 not out, to build on the good platform of 51 from opener Mario Belcon. The other matches in Group B were badly affected by the rain, as only one match was played. The much anticipated clash between T&TEC and Merryboys at Couva was completely washed out and across the highway the central derby between Alescon Comets and Preysal suffered the same fate. All teams will get one point from the wash games. In Group A, leaders Queen's Park battled Wanderers at Point Lisas and the weather was good enough to allow a 20-over affair. QPCC batting first made 144/7 with Runako Morton top-scoring with 43, Daron Cruickshank getting 30 not out, Petrock Nicholas 29 and Marlon Barclay 23. Ancil Nedd was the pick of the bowlers for Wanderers taking 4/11, Mark Deyal the son of former T&T player Deonarine Deyal took 2/21. Wanderers in reply made 98 all out in reply to lose the game by 46 runs. Down South, PowerGen also continued their unbeaten run with their third victory over Esmeralda Sports club, who remains winless.
