Six teams to vie for quarter-final spots today

The knock-out tournament of the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League will commence with three matches in the preliminary round at the Maloney Indoor Sports Complex, tomorrow. All teams which finished in the bottom six places in the 11 team standings will be in action, beginning from 4.30 pm. In the first match, National Flour Mills which finished the league campaign in a disappointing sixth poisition will take on the last place team Police Sports Club which finished all of its ten matches without a single win. The winning team face Defence Force in the first quarterfinal match on Monday. Seventh place Ministry of Sport Schoolaz will then play its first ever knock-out fixture, when it takes on second to last University of T&T at 6 pm. The team which comes out on top will meet former champions Detour Shak Attack on Tuesday.

 

In the final first round match, eighth placed Maloney Pacers will challenge Valencia Heat. Pacers got the better of Heat 71-64, the last time the two met during the league campaign. The progressing team will meet league toppers Sando Petro Jazz in the last quarterfinal next Friday. The other quarterfinal will be between Caledonia Clippers and Diego Martin All Stars which both progressed to the final eight round after finishing in the top six, on Thursday. League winners Sando Petro Jazz, Detour Shak Attack, Defence Force were the other teams to qualify for the quarterfinal automatically for finishing in the respective top three positions.
