Ashlee Smith picked up two silver medals at the Jeff Davis Bank Mc Neese 11 Meet hosted by her school, Mc Neese University, on Friday in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Smith was second in the women's weight throw and shot put events. In the weight throw, the 2010 World Junior Championships campaigner threw the implement out to 17.97 metres but was beaten for the top spot by schoolmate La Shantena Rounds (18.42). In the shot put finals, the Mechanical Engineering student was again beaten by her teammate for the gold. Smith's best throw was at 13.86m with Rounds 14.04m. Annie Alexander and Kryon Blaise grabbed runner-up spots on the first day of action at the NB Collegiate Invitational in Armory, New York on Friday.
Alexander finished second in the women's shot put championship event with a throw of 17.03m. The Tennessee student got her best throw in the fifth round. The 2006 CAC double junior champion was beaten to the top spot by Skyar White (Baylor), 17.32m. Blaise took silver in the men's long jump with a 7.73m leap. The LSU student was edged into second by his teammate Damar Forbes who won with 7.94m. Wayne Davis II just missed a medal in the men's 60m hurdles. The Texas A&M athlete was fourth in 7.74. In the preliminaries Davis was fifth fastest with 7.80. LSU's Ade Alleyne-Forte took fifth spot in the men's 500m championships race in 1:02:60 with Emmanuel Mayers (Mississippi) in sixth (1:03:26).
