Swimmers chase glory at Blink National Schools meeting
It has been well over twenty five years since thousands of secondary school students across Trinidad and Tobago began coming together to compete for their schools to claim glory at the National Secondary Schools’ Swimming Championships. The meeting has become a platform for keen but friendly rivalry and also serves as a launching pad from which talented non-competitive swimmers can enter the competitive arena and move on to becoming national swimmers. This year, the sixth anniversary of Blink / Bmobile sponsorship, over five hundred swimmers are expected at the event hosted by Tidal Wave Aquatics swim club under the auspices of the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago. The event will be held tomorrow at the Swimming Complex, Centre of Excellence, Macoya.
Hazel Haynes of Tidal Wave said “the Tidal Wave team is more than happy once again host this event as we have had the privilege of doing so since 2004.” Haynes noted that the involvement of BLINK/bMobile over the years helped to spark greater interest in the event especially with various innovative incentives they provided. Haynes indicated that the children were always quite eager to participate and approached the sport very professionally.
The reigning champs from last year are:
• Top Male School - St. Mary’s College
• Top Female School – St. Joseph’s Convent POS • Top Co-Ed School – St. George’s College •Top Male Competitive Swimmer – James Gillette (St. Mary’s College) • Top Female Competitive Swimmer – Jewel Mulrain
(St. George’s College.
