Thomas, Smith shine at Pentecostal Light and Life

Track and field standouts Nathalia Thomas and Shawnea Smith each walked away with five gold medals at the Pentecostal Light and Life High School’s annual Sports Meet at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on January 26. Thomas took the girls Under-17 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump and high jump events while Smith was victorious in the same events in the girls Under-14 category. Jovani Phillips picked up four golds in the boys Under-15 age division. The Frank athlete copped the 200m, 400m, 800m and long jump titles. Another Frank trio of Monique Cooper, Corise Alfred and Malik Tarbell also won four golds.

Cooper dominated the girls Under-15 division taking the 400m, 800m, discus and high jump while Alfred ran away with the girls Under-20 800m, 1500m, long jump and high jump crowns. Tarbell claimed the boys Under-17 100m, 200m, long jump and high jump. Taking three gold medals were Nicolette Blackman of Gift (girls under-15 100, 200/400), Shawnea Andrews of Gift (girls under-17 shot put/discus/javelin), and Miguel George of Prescod (girls under-20 200/ 400/800).

Gordon and Adams nab four titles at Roxborough.

Jemali Gordon and Kyamike Adams won four gold medals at the Roxborough Secondary School’s annual sport meet on January 26 at the Cyd Gray Sporting Complex . Gordon of Amethyst House sped to victory in the boys Under-15 100m, 200m, 4m and 1500m events. Adams of Sapphire house, beat the field to take the girls Under-15 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m honours. Gordon’s  house mate, Shanice Sylvester, and Adams’ colleague, Kwasion Spencer, were the next best performers each taking home three titles.

Sylvester swept the girls Under-20 100m, 200m and 400m while Spencer snapped up the same titles among the boys Under-17. Jaylon Taylor of Amethyst secured the boys Under-20 100m and 200m gold medals.
