Naparima’s Nicholas Pooran pulled off a superhuman allround performance as he single-handedly ended Hillview College’s 34-match unbeaten streak during the fourth round of the Powergen Secondary Schools Premiership Division at Wilson Road Recreation Ground, Penal yesterday. The former T&T Under 15 player struck his second consecutive century, a 69-ball 105, and later took four for 11 to lead “Naps” to a 55-run win over the defending champions, who had not lost a Premiership match since 2010. Pooran, who made an even hundred against Shiva Boys last week, hit nine sixes and one four to boost Naparima to 177 all out in 47 overs batting first. Jonathan Singh was the next highest scorer with 16 while Akeem Christmas (2-16) and Anthony Simmons (2-20) picked up two scalps each.
Pooran and Stefan Seepaul (2-10) then reduced Hillview to 120 all out in 37.4 overs to complete the upset. Meanwhile, Presentation College jumped from third to first place on the points table when they edged former leaders Presentation College by 18 runs at Honeymoon Recreation Ground in Tacarigua. Batting first, Presentation posted 157 for eight in 50 overs with Akshay Mangalee topscoring with 51 and Brian Charles chipping in with 41. “Pres” spinners Emilio Gopaul (5-31) and Aleem Khan (2-39) then kept “El Do” restricted to 140 all out in 40 overs. Trevon Jadoo was the only batsman to get going, reaching 42.
