12 go for Royal Colours glory

Twelve three-year-old horses have been declared for the first eye-opener of the 2012 Classic season, the 1,300 metres Royal Colours Classic which carries a purse of $125,000. This will be the feature event on Day 6 of the Arima Race Club’s (ARC) season, which continues at Santa Rosa Park on Saturday, with an eight-race programme. The race will be the sixth event on the day’s programme and it will pit the St Ann’s Stakes winner, The Big Squeeze against others of her gender.
 

The blinkers seemed to have worked the oracle for the Michael Carew (Jnr) trained filly and she will again be fitted with the equipment. She will be partnered by Heribert Martinez. Stable-mate, Mambo Lady is also in the line-up and this horse will be ridden by Sheldon Rodrigo. Carew comes into the event with three entrants, as the maiden D Coachman is also in the fray. Of the others, The Big Thing, owned by David Mahabir, could beat them all if he is back to anything like his best form. Larry Munoz will have the leg up on the colt. When entries were taken yesterday, a total of 88 horses were down to race on the Arima Race Club’s eight race card. Post time for the first event is 1 pm.
