Clippers soar into KO semis

Caledonia Clippers became the latest team to book a spot in the semi-final Knock-out round of the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League (SBL) after defeating Diego Martin All Stars 90-76 at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo, on Tuesday night. The two teams were neck and neck with a first period score of 16-16, and similar in the second with Clippers leading by a narrow 34-32 score going into the half. Clippers, however, went on a 11-5 run in the third period, which was sparked by three consecutive Diego Martin turnovers, resulting in five points gained. The session then concluded with Clippers increasing its lead to an almost uncatchable 69-54 with one quarter remaining.
 
The winning team was led by its forwards Akil Paynter and Kennyatta Alfred who took 18 and 16 points respectively, while Brendon Dennis scored 11. Diego Martin skipper and point-guard Shorn “Dog” Edwards led his team with 15 points, while Curwin Blades followed with 14 points, as the All Stars season came to an end. The Clippers, will now have to wait for the result of the league winner’s Sando Petro Jazz and Maloney Pacers, to determine its opponent in the last four.
Tonight’s quarterfinal match at the Maloney Indoor Sports Arena, has been postponed.
