First Citizens Clarke Road United will launch its annual cricket coaching and youth development programme on February 12, at the Wilson Road Recreation Ground. This long standing and highly successful initiative, started by Kumar Rampat in 1994, has contributed immensely to the strength of the sport, especially in the southern part of the country. Many National cricketers have had their early grounding at this coaching school and numerous schools, clubs and communities have benefited from the consistently high quality work being done by the development unit of First Citizens Clarke Road United.Over the years the organisation has been recognised for its work, by the Penal-Debe Regional Corporation, the West Indies Cricket Board and Shell Trinidad Limited. In 2011, the clubs youth team contested the Final of the TTCB U-16 competition while several of its players represented Trinidad and Tobago at age group level. Among them are Shatrughan Ramberan, Devon Khalawan, Nicholas Pooran, Rajiv Maharaj, Derone Davis and Kieron Joseph. The Technical Staff of the Coaching School will be headed by National U-17 Coach Dasrath Maharaj and will include Glen Dwarkia (National U-15 coach), Shal Ramkissoon, Usha Persad and other certified club coaches. The Administrative element is being handled by Mr Fazad Khan.
