Shooters Latisha Pitt and Sharon Phillip helped the University of T&T (UTT) rebound from its loss to TSTT (35-30) last Thursday with a narrow 42-40 victory over Police in the Alternative Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League.

It was in the second match in a double-header played at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua on Tuesday evening. Pitt was good for 22 goals from 32 attempts while Phillip added the other 20 from 31 tries in their round two match. UTT held the advantage at the end of each of the quarters 10-9 in the first, 22-20 at halftime and its biggest lead 34-28 in the third session. The policewomen fought back hard behind the shooting of Giselle Norton-Richards, who produced a match-high 31 from 46 but still fell short of victory.

Police goal-attack Tracy Regis netted seven from 19 in a losing effort. In the opening match, it was another close affair but it was the University of Southern Caribbean (USC) emerging with a four-goal (35-31) win over Prisons. Like in the other match-up, USC was on top at the end of each quarter, 11-7, 21-16 and 26-23. Leading the way was goal-shooter Afiya Alexis with 23 from 44 and her goal -attack Gabrielle Gooding put in 12 off 27 for the winner. LaVaughn O’Neil topscored with 30 off 49 but it was not enough to pull off the win for Prisons. After today’s scheduled matches in the Premiership Division, the league takes a break for the Carnival festivities and restarts on February 23 with two matches in the Championship Division.
