GEORGETOWN—Two of the region’s most successful boxers will face each other for the Caribbean Boxing Federation heavyweight title on February 25. Outstanding Shawn “The Sniper” Cox of Barbados and former World cruiserweight champion Wayne “Big Truck” Braithwaite of Guyana will feature in the marquee bout in the World Boxing Council’s Caribbean Cup Championships at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. “Unbelievably, these two fighters have never crossed paths and this meeting could be very historic,” said Guyana Boxing Board of Control executive member Howard Cox. Barbadian Cox has lost only one of his 16 fights, and Braithwaite has lost four times in 28 fights, but they are both stepping up to the heavyweight division to accommodate the fight and organisers’ wishes to fill many of the vacant spots in the CABOFE ratings.

A number of CABOFE titles featuring some of the region’s best pugilists will be at stake when on the card. This  is to create the opportunity for fighters to compete for lucrative titles and monetary rewards in the WBC anniversary celebrations tournament slated for later in the year. In a supporting bout, Edmond DeClou of Guyana will face his toughest foe, when tackles Kevin Placide, another Barbadian, for the middleweight belt. United States-based Guyanese CABOFE bantamweight champion Elton “Coolie Bully” Dharry will defend his title against Barbadian Selwyn Lett in another 12-rounder. Barbados-based Guyanese Revlon Lake will go after Barbadian Miguel “Hands of Stone” Antoine for the CABOFE super-lightweight belt. (CMC)
