“Attending this year’s Olympics is of peculiar and sentimental value to me because my father won his medal in London.” These were the words of Grace Wilkes, daughter of T&T’s first Olympic medallist Rodney Wilkes, who is currently raising funds to attend the upcoming London Olympics. Speaking to the T&T Guardian on Monday, Wilkes, who is a Howard University journalist graduate, stated that it would be a dream come true for her to see the games first hand.

“Seeing a picture of the Olympics in flesh and blood could make a big difference not only to me but to the country. If I ask that (to go to the Olympics) there should be nothing wrong with that...that shouldn’t even be questioned. I should be given the opportunity.” Wilkes will need approximately $70,000 for a 16-day stay in London. She is selling exercise DVD’s in an attempt to raise enough money to turn her dream into reality.
Interested persons who would like to assist Wilkes can contact her at 750-6479 to purchase her “Keep Fit” DVD’s.
