MMA champion Dwayne Hinds defeated Raynard Corts to earn his place in this afternoon’s finals of the 2012 National Boxing Amateur Championships scheduled for the Woodbrook Youth Facility, Woodbrook, Port of Spain, from 1 pm. Hinds, the reigning “King of The Rock” champion of  Jamaica, is yet to know his opponent due to last night semi-final round which took place at Maloney Indoor Sports Complex, Maloney. Hinds, 28, made the switch to boxing due to a groin injury which prevented him from using his legs in training.”It’s been good MMA uses all types of fighting styles including boxing. For the past month I have been using my hands and working on my technique after I suffered a groin injury which prevented me from using my legs.” Hinds, a resident of St James, who recently opened his gym Rough House, is well known around the Caribbean and United Kingdom. Successful in his last eight fights Hinds said he had no difficulty  coming from an MMA background. “My strength is on the ground. I am used to not using my feet, I am confident about today. I think I have an advantage due to my cardio. opponents tend to give in to my pressure.” Top local fighter Aaron Prince also saw victory on the night when he defeated Diland Clarke. Overseas Canadian fighter Lexton Bates also booked his place in today’s finals after defeating Anderson Chacon during Friday’s semi-final.
