Sprinter Franklyn Stanisclaus guided Bishops High School to the 2012 Tobago Secondary Schools Track and Field title, at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Tuesday. The lanky runner impressed with four gold medals in the boys under-14 100m (12.70), 200m (26.17), 400m (58.77) and high jump events (1.45) and anchored Bishops to victory in the 4X100 relay. The triumphs of Mark London and Edson Moses also aided Bishops in lifting the title as each emerged a triple crown winner. Two-time Carifta champion London took the boys under-20 400m (50.61), 800m (1:58:32) and 1500m (4:39:14), while Moses copped the boys under-17 400m (53.01), long jump (6.51) and high jump (1.70). Moses also grabbed silver in the 110m hurdles (16.63). Stanisclaus copped the overall Boy's Athlete of the Meet title as well at the best under-14 boys competitor. London was the best among the boys under-20 and Moses, the boys under-17. Mt Marie students took the lead in the points standing at the end of the first day and never looked back, going on to take the overall title by more than 100 points, totalling 895 to Signal Hill Secondary's 782.5. Defending champions Scarborough Secondary were third (744.5) with Speyside High in fourth (628.5).
The top three schools have produced Tobago's World Championships medalists: Bishops (Josanne Lucas-2009 women's 400m hurdles bronze medallist); Signal Hill (Kelly Ann Baptiste-2011 women's 100m bronze medallist); and Scarborough (Renny Quow-2009 men's 400m bronze medallist). Leading the way for Signal Hill were Girls Athlete of the Meet Shaquanna Scott and Chevelle Mc Pherson. Scott triumphed in the girls under-14 100m (14.21), 200m (28.77), long jump (4.03) and was second in the high jump (1.25). Mc Pherson took the girls under-15 100m (13.88), 200m (29.45) and the long jump (4.38). Several athletes recorded double wins: Aaron Lewis (Harmon SDA) boys under-17 110m hurdles (15.27), 400m hurdles (59.85); Kuniba Stewart (Signal Hill) boys under-20 110m hurdles (15.25), 400m hurdles (59.01); Kenejah Williams (Scarborough Secondary) boys under-17 shot put (16.39), discus (43.09); Miguel Hackett (Pentecostal L&L) 800m (2:13:98), 1500m (4:56:76); Reneice Joseph (Mason Hall) 400m (1:03:56), 800m (2:36:33); Akanni Hislop (Bishops) boys under-15 100m (12.44), 200m (24.84); Zakiya Denoon (Speyside) girls under-20 100m (12.71), 200m (25.87); Nicholas Douglas (Mason Hall) boys under-17 100m (11.07), 200m (22.18); Kayamka Adams (Roxborough) girls under-15 800m-(2:52:91)/1500m (6:18:05), Anya Akili (Bishops) girls under-14 400m (1:10:22), high jump (1:30).
