ZONAL CRICKET

The tail end of the rainy season is preventing cricket to begin in North East Trinidad. The North East Zone led by Arjoon Ramlal met on Monday to discuss the present situation and decided to put back the start to March 10. According to Ramlal: “The grounds in the region are water-logged for most days and this has given the teams real headache in trying to have the pitches ready for action. The rain has been belting down in our parts and this has really been frustrating for the teams.
“We met on Monday and decided that we will start the season with the Sunday League series from March 10. We are hoping that the weather give us a break, so that the groundsmen can have the grounds ready. We have given ourselves an extra week but today (yesterday) the weather has been so bad, is it really disappointing. We are however still hoping for the best as we try to get the guys out there playing cricket.”
The League tournament will bowl off on March 17 and this will be followed by the T20 mid-week series which gets off on March 21.

NORTH...
Sweet Revenge will begin the 2012 North Zonal Council senior division cricket when they host the Combined Schools this Saturday at the Queens Park Savannah. Students who are currently enrolled in the PowerGen Secondary School Cricket League will be drafted into a Combined Schools  team to play this league. Sweet Revenge was recently crowned champions of the North Zone 40-over title after defeating Fatima College with Guyanese under-19 all rounder Riad Ali and Glenford Alexander turning in fine performances. Fatima College will visit North Coast at its Maracas grounds. Fatima currently sit last on the Secondary School cricket standings but recently made it into the finals of the North Zone 40-over tournament. All rounder Kelly Rosalis who recently made a half century against Naparima College describes the team effort as satisfactory. "We are confident, we just recently came out of the north zonal 40-over finals, unfortunately we lost but it was a good team effort. It was our first time in the tournament and we go into this match with a fit team. Glenora will visit Harvard and Paragon will play Carenage at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
