Spinner Kavesh Kantasingh has finally made the T&T senior cricket team. The former Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) player was chosen yesterday to play on the weekend against Jamaica at the Queen's Park Oval. Making a return to the team is Aneil Kanhai as well as Sherwin Ganga. Allrounder Rayad Emrit has been chosen to lead in the absence of regular captain Denesh Ramdin. About a month ago the University of the West Indies (UWI) wrote the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) informing them that the left arm orthodox spinner is available for selection for his country. Kantasingh played for the CCC for many years in regional cricket, as he attends UWI, reading for a degree in Engineering.
With a number of the top players missing from the T&T line-up he is more than likely to make his debut against the Jamaicans on Friday.
Chairman of the T&T selection panel Dudnath Ramkessoon welcomes his presence. "Kantasingh has been around for a while, playing for the CCC in regional cricket and has gotten a fair amount of success. "We need him at present because he is in-form and of course his experience is an asset with this young team. This is a good opportunity for him with the national team and we wish him all the best." Ramkessoon added that the return of Ganga will also bolster the team is terms of experience. Sherwin Ganga has the experience and when we look at the present situation, we wanted experienced men in there. We are coming up against the defending champions and leaders Jamaica, so we have to be competitive." Another experienced player making a return is left-handed batsman Aneil Kanhai. The Moosai player has been in good form in the domestic Premiership to earn his call up. Another player who has been getting runs in the Premiership is allrounder Kevon Cooper and he too is on the team for the weekend.
