East Zone made a winning start of the 2012 British Gas Under-17 cricket tournament, when they defeated Tobago by 73 runs in the opening match at Squadron. Batting first, in a match reduced to 20 overs, East made 120 for two. Leading the fight for the Easterns were Shaquille McDavid with an unbeaten 47 and Tevon Jadoo with 31. When Tobago went in to bat, they found the going very tough indeed and were skittled out for just 47. Jamel Hunte was the pick of the bowlers taking the incredible figures of five wickets for five runs. In the BGTT U-19 division, rain washed out the clash between Tobago and East at the National Cricket Centre. East batting first was 55 for one when the heavens opened up and put paid to the match.
