Jean-Marc Granderson, 11, of Rainbow Warriors Triathlon Club (RWTC), won the 10-12 age group Mini-Duathlon at the Queen's Park Savannah last Sunday. Taking second and third spots in the event hosted by the RWTC were Tyrese Balgaroo, 10, of RWTC, and Joshua Bankay, 12 of Chaguanas. Eleven youngsters took part in this age group, while Christian Gillette, 14, beat 17 others in the 13 to 15 age group. Second and third were Joshua Ho, 14 and top junior mountain biker Peter Sellier, 12. In the senior event of the 12th annual Mini-Duathlon (run/ride/rrun) event, the winner was national triathlon champion Ancil Greene, 35, who finished the 2,500m run, 3 laps Savannah ride and then 2,500m run again in 39:16. Second and third were Kirk Hearn, 26, in 42:17 and Leopold McIntyre, 36, in 43:19.
Among the ladies the winners were in first place and 8th overall, were Alexandra Consten, 34, of Germany in 44:04, followed by Renee Chin Lee, 16, of St. Joseph's Convent POS in 51:29 and Debra-Ann Grell, 39, in 53:59.
Seventy-nine duathletes challenged the course. In the run QP Savannah one lap, which attracted 190 runners, the winners were Roland Bartholomew, 31, in 12:27, followed by Shayne Barran, 20, in 12:44 and Kenroy Pierre, 24, in 12:58. Among the ladies the winners were Celine Lestrade, 27, in 14:32, followed by Thais Gutierrez, 32, in 16:26 and Alana Lee Woo, 42, in 18:02. Sponsors of the event were General Maintenance & Service Ltd. of Chaguanas, NLCB, Blue Waters, Subway and Mike's Bikes, with giveaways from Geronimo's.
