Christopher John's 34-point tally took Valencia Heat to a 67-61 win over Maloney Pacers in the Super 10 Boys 18-and-Under basketball semi-final on Sunday at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo. The result was Valencia Heat's ninth win in as many matches. As a result, they booked a place in the final with Millennium Basketball Academy, which edged Trailblazers 53-50 in the other semi-final. Pacers trailed all quarters, 21-13, 40-30 and 55-49, before Heat controlled the final period for the easy win. John was supported by reliable teammates, point-guard Canaan Donowa and Ivan Williams, who sank 10 points apiece. Pacers Nathan Lewis had 24 points while Justin Medina and Maxime Perreira Jr took 13 points each.
In the other semi-final, Millenniun BA (MBA) ousted Blink Trailblazers. Both teams were level 14-14 after the first quarter, but MBA took control with a 23-16 lead at the half, as Trailblazers could only muster a single basket. The win for Millennium was masterminded by Jonathan Hamilton and Khalid Arrindell, who took 22 and 10 points, respectively. Jalani Mapp (11) and Juvani Andrews (10 points) led the scoring for Trailblazers. The two teams will meet in the "sudden-death" final, today at the Jean Pierre Complex. The match begins at 6.30 pm.
