This country's boys and girls Under-16 teams will both be in action when the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Assocaition Junior (Under-16) Championship serves off in the US Virgin islands (USVI), today. First in action will be the Sean Morrison-coached boys' team, who will be seeking to improve on its third placed finish against regional rival Barbados from 4 pm while Curacao tackles host USVI, four hours later. Speaking on the eve of his team's opener Morrison shared that he thinks his team has a good chance of going all the way to the title. With regards to the competition Morrison said Curacao normally has a good team and should be his team's main rival while USVI as host country should also be difficult.
At 6 pm, the Macsood Ali-coached coached girls' team will begin the defence of its title versus Barbados. Looking ahead to the competition, Saleem Ali, the team's assistant coach and son of Macsood stated that the girls have a great a chance of repeating as champions. However, Saleem noted that it would be unwise to take its opponent for granted. "We recently came from USVI and know what to expect of them while Haiti and Barbados are somewhat of unknown to us at this level." Haiti meets USVI in the opener from 2 pm. (NS)
