This coun­try's boys and girls Un­der-16 teams will both be in ac­tion when the Caribbean Zon­al Vol­ley­ball As­so­caition Ju­nior (Un­der-16) Cham­pi­onship serves off in the US Vir­gin is­lands (USVI), to­day. First in ac­tion will be the Sean Mor­ri­son-coached boys' team, who will be seek­ing to im­prove on its third placed fin­ish against re­gion­al ri­val Bar­ba­dos from 4 pm while Cu­ra­cao tack­les host USVI, four hours lat­er. Speak­ing on the eve of his team's open­er Mor­ri­son shared that he thinks his team has a good chance of go­ing all the way to the ti­tle. With re­gards to the com­pe­ti­tion Mor­ri­son said Cu­ra­cao nor­mal­ly has a good team and should be his team's main ri­val while USVI as host coun­try should al­so be dif­fi­cult.

At 6 pm, the Mac­sood Ali-coached coached girls' team will be­gin the de­fence of its ti­tle ver­sus Bar­ba­dos. Look­ing ahead to the com­pe­ti­tion, Saleem Ali, the team's as­sis­tant coach and son of Mac­sood stat­ed that the girls have a great a chance of re­peat­ing as cham­pi­ons. How­ev­er, Saleem not­ed that it would be un­wise to take its op­po­nent for grant­ed. "We re­cent­ly came from USVI and know what to ex­pect of them while Haiti and Bar­ba­dos are some­what of un­known to us at this lev­el." Haiti meets USVI in the open­er from 2 pm. (NS)
