Ceramic Trinidad Limited Merry Boys will look to top Esmeralda SC in the final of the University of the West Indies (UWI) T20 Cricket competition this evening at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground, UWISpec, St Augustine at 7 pm. The championship match which was scheduled for last Friday was pushed back to facilitate the hosting of the regional semifinal match between T&T and Barbados on the weekend. Diego Martin-based Merry Boys will start as firm favourites to be the first to put their name on the silverware. The boys from the west will have in their line-up in-form and three-time man-of- the match, Alcindo Holder, Aaron Alfred and Samuel Felix. So far on the campaign, Bajan Holder has proven to be a dominating factor with both bat and ball for Merry Boys. His best effort thus far is 64 off 45 balls and three for ten against Prisons at the quarterfinal stage.
Hard hitting Holder also had good performances 45 from 35 balls and three for 29 against eastern outfits Moosai SC in the semifinals and 30 in 13 balls versus Bamboo All Stars in the preliminary. Surprise package, Esmeralda SC of central will be hoping to spring a big surprise against the more seasoned campaigners. Ex-national player Shazan Badwah will be at the helm for Esmeralda. The squad also includes young talent Teshawn Castro and Kevon Edwards, who scored a valuable 27-ball 58 in his side's success over Preysal in the semifinal round. Esmeralda run to the championship match also included triumphs over Fulham SC of Arima in the quarterfinals and T&TEC in their opening affair. Preceding the final there will be a women's ten-over match beginning at 4.30 pm.
