Davidson cops U-16 MVP award
Malika Davidson, captain of the triumphant T&T Under-16 girls volleyball team was voted Most Valuable Player of the Third Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association Youth Championship which ended in St Croix, US Virgin Islands on Wednesday night.
Davidson, who had a match high 20 points in leading T&T past debutantes Haiti 25–15, 25–22, 25–20 in the final, also walked away with the Best Spiker and Best Scorer awards. Fellow T&T players, Reann Young and Aliya Dick Ross also walked away with individual awards for the Macsood Ali-coached “Calypso Spikers” who won all five matches they contested.
Young picked up the Best Server award while Ross was named as the Best Receiver. In the boys category, USVI Nayib Gonzalez was voted as the Most Valuable Player after leading his team to a 25–19, 25–21, 14–25, 25–20 beating of former champions.
Gonzalez also took home the Best Spiker accolade while his team-mate Laskish Plante was the Best Setter.
