Under-19 champ Kale Wilson will make his debut in the senior's category of the KFC Junior Squash Open which serves off from April 19-22 at the Cascadia Squash Club, Cascade. The tournament serves as a qualifying event for the upcoming Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships. Wilson, a University of Western Ontario student, brilliantly started his senior career in February when he entered the Toronto Mayfair Open graded squash tournament in Canada. Wilson beat top seed, Adrian Pond, 3-1 in the final to win the "A" division title.
Also moving up in age divisions are Patrick brothers Mandela and Nku, who were the 2011 under-17 and under-15 champions respectively. The older Patrick is now in the under-19 category, while his younger sibling has moved up to the under-17 category. Jonathan Blanc is the boys under-13 defending champ.In the girls, Charlotte Knaggs and Angelique Jackson will do their utmost to retain their under-19 and under-17 titles respectively. Faith Gillezeau (under-15) and Gabriela Scott (under-13) are the remaining defending champs among the girls. Squash athletes may compete in only one of the five age categories offered: under-11, under-13, under-15, under-17, under-19. Matches will be played in a best of five Point-a-Rally (PAR) to 11 format, and players are expected to walk with their mandatory eyewear.
The entry fee is $100 with a T&TSA Membership fee of $100 also attached. Interested participants can register by emailing their name, contact number and preferred age group to secretary@squashtt.org
The T&TSA will also be holding a Garage Sale next month in an attempt to raise funds for the National team's trip to the 30th CASA Junior Championships in Jamaica. The Association is accepting donations of various items which are to be dropped at the Cascadia Squash Club for Sheldon at 356-3384.
