Twin brothers Ty and Joshua Abraham were crowned champions of the Catch National Junior Tennis Championships, winning both in the Under-16 and U-18 categories, respectively. Joshua defeated number one seed Akiel Duke in a thrilling 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 with Duke fighting back in the second set. "I think it was a good match. It was really tough I never played a three-setter that hard but I know I had the ability to beat him," said Abraham. Duke did admit that he did take his foot of the pedal which caused him the match. He said, "It was a tough match. It was tight in the first set and in the second we had three delays which caused me to lose focus and take my foot off the pedal."
Ty claimed the boys U-16 title after defeating Elan Mendes in straight sets, 6-1 6-4. Mendes last year won the boys U-14 final in both singles and doubles, found it a bit difficult after moving up into the U-16 and U-18 categories. In the girls, Kezia Koroma had a tough match against Da Johnnique Delancy winning 7-6 (3), 6-1. Cariss Rudulfo had an easy victory when she defeated Emma Rose Trestrial 6-3 6-1. Today, the Red Star category will be introduced for the first time in the tournament. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) sanctioned Red Star tournament has been specially designed for players 10 and under and incorporates the use of a much slower red ball which is heavier. Smaller courts are also used so players can properly develop their skills prescribed by the ITF.
