Last week saw the end of the quarter final stage in the SIS Industrial Cricket League as Yara (Trinidad) Ltd and Industrial Plant Services Ltd's AUM Division fought for the final semi-final spot. Yara, who finished second in Group A, was sent in to bat by AUM and seemed to be getting runs at a healthy rate early on. Even though they lost some early wickets, I Mohammed with the score on two and R Surujbally run out with the score on 19, by the third over they had a healthy twenty four runs.
AUM tightened their bowling significantly though and only conceded twenty five runs in their last seven overs. With the score on 39 in the eighth over, Yara lost five consecutive wickets but were able to add an additional ten runs off of the final two overs, due in part to some wayward bowling. Yara getting to 49 runs in their ten overs.
AUM had a shaky start and looked like they were going to struggle through their innings as Yara were determined to defend their small total. In the first five overs AUM lost four wickets with just eighteen runs on the board which injected some life into the Yara supporters.
However, Narendra Sooknannan had other ideas and effectively stole any glimmer of hope from Yara. Sooknannan took the score from eighteen for five to thirty eight for six before his wicket fell in the ninth over but with the score on forty eight, just two runs shy of victory. The damage was done though and AUM claimed victory with two balls to spare, Sooknannan making 22 runs in his cameo innings.
So the Semi Final showdowns are set. Defending champions Super Industrial Services Limited will battle IPSL AUM in the first Semi Final on Thursday with the big clash on Friday between last year's beaten finalists PCS Nitrogen and two time champions, T&TEC.
Summarised Scores:
Yara 49/9 (10 overs) A Tokhai 10, N Sooknannan 2/4, B Wong 2/2 vs IPSL AUM 52/6 (9.4 overs) N. Sooknannan 22, I. Mohammed 3/12, A Tokhai 2/17
Result: IPSL AUM won by 4 wickets and advances to the Semi Finals.
