T&T's six-member squad will pedal-off in pursuit for success at the Junior Pan American Championship, in Guatemala City, Guatemala, today. The team, consisting of Akil Campbell, Samuel Mahabir, Kwesi Browne, Justin Roberts, Aziza Browne and Jodi Goodridge, is among the largest teams of cyclists to take to the Guatemalan tracks of the 25 participating Pan American countries. Coach Robert Farrel Jr, manager Fitzroy Daniel and mechanic Christopher Pitt, also made the trip.
Both Browne (Akil) and Goodridge are popular selections to take medals at the series of events, which concludes on Sunday. Goodridge currently holds the record in the flying 200m track event at the Arima Veledrome, and is hoping to better her performance from the previous Pan Am Championship appearance, which saw her finish fourth in the match sprint and the 500m events, and fifth in the kieren. It will be her third Pan American appearance. The women will first be in action today in the 500m time trial event, before the men take to the team sprint and scratch race events. The team will be in action in all six days of cycling.
